2010 DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD
3C4A.Org :: Pauline Clark
West Valley College
488-741-2411
Pauline Clark has been a Community College Counselor/Instructor for 36 years where she has received numerous awards for teaching excellence. She has served as a Counselor to Athletes at West Valley College for 17 years and has been an active member of the 3C4A.
She was selected by the organization as the Academic Counselor of the Year in 2005. In addition, she served a three-year term on the COA Management Council where she authored and sponsored legislation to raise the academic requirements for athletes. She represented the 3C4A at the Coast Conference for many years and has also served on the COA Awards Committee. Mentoring new academic counselors to athletes has been a commitment that Pauline has enjoyed. She has willingly shared materials and processes with colleagues. She has been a presenter at workshops and conferences including the N4A national conference where she presented, “Creating A Comprehensive Academic Support Program for Community College Athletes”. In 2001, while on sabbatical, she conducted research into academic support programs for athletes throughout the United States by visiting programs, and gathering information and materials, at two-year and four-year colleges and universities. She shared the results of her findings with her colleagues in 3C4A.
Together with her colleague, Wanda Wong, Pauline has helped to create one of the premier academic support programs for athletes in California; one that remains consistently a leader in the number of transfers to universities, scholarship recipients, scholar team awards and high grade point averages for teams. Many West Valley College athletes have received scholar awards because of her guidance, encouragement and support.
The enthusiasm, encouragement and genuine positive regard that Pauline has for our athletes will be missed. Her commitment to excellence in any endeavor serves as a model for us to emulate.
